ADDIE MODEL

ANALYZE

The foundation that helps set the path for the content needed, who the target audience is and the purpose of the course.

DEVELOP

Working in collaboration with instructional designers and knowledgeable individuals that understand the content and how to bring it to fruition through various modes of learning.

EVALUATE

Gathering data to see how successful the course was and focusing on areas that need improvement for future students.

DESIGN

The detailed outline of the entire course to ensure a cohesive structure is implemented with the needed materials for successful completion and understanding.

IMPLEMENT

The learning platform goes live for the learners to access and also support is provided for facilitators, making sure they understand how to navigate the material.

Implications of the ADDIE Model

alt=""

The ADDIE model has beneficial attributes that assist in developing learning materials that can be useful in a variety of settings from K-12 classrooms, higher education, corporations and specific industries such as healthcare. Being able to begin with an outline to specify the needs for the course and work with the client to create material that will be beneficial to both the client and learner is crucial. Being able to adapt and adjust accordingly based on the needs of the learners helps create an effective learning module that will address specific needs that arise. Having the ability to analyze the effectiveness of the learning modules and using that feedback to improve the learning experience assists in creating more positive outcomes. The most important thing is being able to build on a foundation and constantly monitoring the progress of any learning material created. Things  always evolve and should evolve to benefit the learner and make sure that the learning objectives are being met. Improvements are always needed and should be welcomed. The ADDIE model allows for the vision to come to life and for the learning outcome to be an important part of the process.

Strengths and Limitations of the ADDIE Model

I would love to be able to be an instructional designer for the government/military and assist in creating learning materials for a variety of trainings. The ADDIE Model has different layers to it and I will discuss the strengths and limitations when it comes to using this model to create trainings for the government/military.

Checklist

  • Originally created for military trainings and is used in all military branches.

  • It has a specific order that allows for cohesion and things to build on each other.

  • Links are made between course content and learning objectives.

  • Ability to adjust based on data and feedback.

  • It is very time consuming and may not meet the quick turn around time required by leadership.

  • It doesn't incorporate new advances in technology, seems very rigid.

  • The military has been using it for so long, seems to prefer it so introducing other methods may be difficult.
